West Sicily
The Elemi, Phoenician, Carthaginian, Greeks, Arabs and Normans settled the Western side of the island. This part of the region perfectly reflects the cultural diversity left by twenty-five centuries of tumultuous history with so many conquerors. In the past this area was called “ Val di Mazara”. It includes hilly landscapes covered by rich Olive groves and well-established vineyards.

This is the area of “Tonnara” (Tuna fish fishery),“ Blue fish” (also known as oily fish), the “ salt routes ”, the Zingaro Nature Reserve and the Aegadian Archipelago, Moscato and Marsala, Temples and Mosaics. Staying in Mazara del Vallo with its Kasbah or in Palermo with the Arab Norman Unesco Heritage sites will take you back in history to a time when Sicily was under Arab domination. You’ll breathe in the nice mix of different cultures present in the region in the past.
The western side of the island is less visited but certainly no less appealing. Staying on the west coast, you’ll be able to visit mysterious deserted towns, monuments dated back to ancient times, protected natural landscapes where sea turtles and flamingos go to nest, as well as cities of art. You will discover a place full of charm and harmony, in the warm sunlight, which is the symbol of Sicily.
